To Preserve and Protect: Manufactured Housing Communities and California’s Housing Crisis (MPRROP 1)

Host: San Joaquin Valley Affordable Housing Collaborative

This is a session on Day 1 of the San Joaquin Valley Affordable Housing Summit, September 21-23.

Manufactured housing makes up a disproportionate amount of California’s Naturally Occurring Affordable Housing – especially for homeownership. Residents are largely older adults and BIPOC community members. Preserving this housing stock – especially after decimation of these communities after natural disasters – will be paramount.

Discussion will focus on various models, best practices, challenges, and successes for nonprofit affordable housing developer and resident cooperative acquisition and preservation of manufactured housing communities.

Speakers will include researchers, HCD staff, local developers, and TA providers working to support communities in preserving manufactured housing communities and promoting cooperative ownership.
