Candidates running for the Los Angeles City Council District 5 representative seat discussed a variety of topics including homelessness, mental health services, housing and boulevard development on April 29.
Four candidates – Jimmy Biblarz, Katy Young Yaroslavsky, Scott Epstein and Sam Yebri – spoke at the 8 a.m. forum hosted by the Westside Urban Forum, an organization dedicated to encouraging discourse on land-use issues affecting the western side of Los Angeles. City Council District 5 includes UCLA, Westwood and Bel-Air, as well as surrounding areas…

In Los Angeles County, 79% of extremely low-income households are paying more than half of their income toward housing costs in comparison to 3% of moderate-income households, according to a 2020 Affordable Housing Needs report from the California Housing Partnership, a non-profit aiming to provide housing for working families, people experiencing homelessness, veterans, seniors and people with disabilities.
