Upon graduating from Nevada Union High School in the Summer of 2003, the plan for many in that class of new graduates was to go to college and move back home after securing a job with the help of a fancy new degree. Between the slower pace of rural living in the idyllic foothills and the natural small-town charm held by many of the cities in the area, few could think of a better place to put down roots. At one point, many in this group had jokingly started calling the area “Stars Hollow West,” a reference to the picturesque town featured in the “Gilmore Girls” TV show that ran from 2000 to 2007. Hallmark had similar feelings around the same time and used Nevada City in their 2006 movie “The Christmas Card.” There was also a consensus among many that although the county was too small and remote for where they currently were in their lives, most agreed that Nevada County was the perfect place to settle down.
Well, life rarely cooperates.
