State Policy Priorities for 2021: Announcing California’s Roadmap HOME

CA Roadmap HOME 2030 LogoThe California Housing Partnership is proud to announce the release of the 2021 policy priorities from the Roadmap HOME — the first long-term, comprehensive, and evidence-based framework of policy solutions to end homelessness and create stable, affordable homes for all Californians.

Developed in partnership with Housing California and leading policy experts, researchers and advocates from across the state, this January Roadmap HOME release sets four clear goals and proposes 12 policy priorities that California state legislators should focus on this year in order to make measurable progress against these goals.

Coming in March, the full Roadmap HOME will demonstrate how, over the next ten years, the state can end homelessness, create affordable homes for those struggling the most, ensure that Californians can stay in their homes, and advance racial equity, creating a California where everyone can thrive.

THE ROADMAP HOME’S FOUR GOALS FOR 2030

1) Create 1.2 million new affordable homes for low-income Californians, including for those experiencing homelessness.

2) Protect 1 million low-income renter households from losing their homes, including more than 300,000 who face eviction each year.

3) End homelessness for more than 150,000 Californians who are unhoused every night and over 400,000 who are unhoused throughout the year.

4) Close racial equity gaps in housing and homelessness.

Co-led by the California Housing Partnership and Housing California with significant contributions by the California Budget and Policy Center, the Roadmap HOME has been developed over the past year by a diverse coalition and is rooted in the belief that we are all stronger when every Californian has a safe, stable, affordable place to call home. If you agree with this belief, we urge you to take the following three actions.

ACTION STEPS

Review and share the Roadmap’s top housing policy priorities for the state.

Contact your legislators by email, phone and social media to request they take action to adopt the Roadmap HOME goals and 2021 legislative proposals. Sen. Wiener and Asm. Chiu, alongside philanthropic organizations including the Irvine Foundation, the Hilton Foundation and the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, have already voiced their support for the Roadmap’s bold, ten-year vision.
