“We applaud Governor Newsom’s proposal to make new short-term investments that will help California communities reduce the negative impacts of the homeless and housing crises. But the roughly $2 billion in proposed new investments in preserving and expanding the supply of affordable and sustainable homes spread over the next two years falls far short of the $17.9 billion a year that California’s Roadmap Home clearly shows is needed over the next ten years to provide the services and 1.2 million homes needed to end homelessness and the affordable housing gap in our state. We ask that the Governor and state leaders go beyond proposing another year of short-term assistance and instead commit to a long-term plan with sustained investments at the scale needed to solve the homeless and housing affordability crises and address climate change.”
